Description
What vegetables do I plant and when? After years of research, trial and error of my own, I have created a go to list of the vegetable crops that thrive in the tropics, including when and how. Its a general guide for the humid tropics. I live in Kuranda, so it would suit anywhere from Cairns to Atherton or other tropical towns such as Darwin and Broome. Any further in elevation it gets cooler earlier so the growing season can start earlier depending on the rainfall. Unless there are frosts like Ravenshoe which will reduce the amount that can be grown through winter. It can always be challenged as the weather can be unpredictable. A tip to buffer the summer sun is to put hoops over the beds and cover with shade cloth. This helps to get more delicate vegetables started earlier, such as Lettuce. This list contained in the guide is of annual plants, which means they will grow and often die back after each year and need to be replanted from seed or root in the following season.
Ive created a PDF that contains 2 pages. The first is a linear spreadsheet and the second is a cyclic planner of the year. The guide is separated into; Fruits, Roots, Leaves and Legumes to assist with ease of crop rotation.
